- Date started working in metal clay:
- Not sure, it was either 1999 or 2000.
- Certified: (what clay, year and with whom)
- PMC, 2002, Carl Stanley
- Accomplished at what media in addition to metal clay:
- I wouldn’t say I was accomplished but I did at one time make a living from illustrating and design.
- Website and short bio:
- No website, yet. I was born in Hawaii with a pencil in my hand. Started off in graphic design and that has led me to one-of-a-kind art jewelry.
- What is your inspiration now? Do you have a muse?
- My main inspiration and muse has and always will be Hawaii; the beauty, the colors and the people.
- What is currently on your bench/workspace?
- A mess! There is always something in the pipe. Right now there are five neck pieces waiting to be finished.
- What project/direction are you working on now?
- I’m wanting to add a bit of storytelling as well as more color to my focals.
- How much time do you average at the bench per week?
- I can vary depending if there is a special project or upcoming sale.
- What’s the average time you spend on a piece?
- I get asked that from time to time. It’s hard to say because I’ll work in batches – anywhere from 5-8 hours including the focal piece and assembling the finished piece.
- Do you sell your work? Where?
- Jeff Chang Pottery (Honolulu and Aiea) where I work part-time, a couple local museum shops, 3rd Ward Jewelry in Milwaukee, WI, and art sales.
- Where do you get your new ideas?
- Anywhere, a cool pattern on a building, a unique cut gemstone strand as well as other finished jewelry.
- Do you keep a sketchbook and how do you organize it?
- I have one of those little Moleskin sketchbooks. If you know me at all you’d know that “organized” is not a description that comes to mind. There’s a mix of sketches, pictures, notes and inspirational writing. It’s basically a storehouse of things that appeal to me and that I want to revisit.
- Are there places or things you avoid that zap your creativity?
- Not really zapped but I have self diagnosed ADD, so anything is a distraction.
- Do you have a ritual before you begin to create?
- Not really but once I get in the groove it’s hard to stop.
- What do you collect?
- Gee, this sounds like a confession but I collect jewelry. My latest obsession (among many others) is native American-made turquoise jewelry.
- How do you rejuvenate your creativity?
- Going to the Tucson Gem Shows annually works for me! I get inspired by the array of unique gemstones, metals, as well as what other artists are doing.
- What would your perfect creative day be like?
- Where I actually would plan and finish everything I wanted to do!
Yay! So glad Candice wanted to play. Love getting to know her better. Wish she had even a one page web site.
