I sure hope so! I hope they look to you for inspiration, admiration in how you market yourself, how effective your branding is, how excellent your work style and technique are, your perfect pricing savvy, and your overall success!
If they do not envy you, why not? Hmmmm. Take a moment. It’s a loaded question.
I quickly think of some of my role models and people I admire and even envy. I “see” their logo, the design of their website, their unique work, their physical presentation of their brand (themselves), their booth, an article they’ve written, etc. It is readily available in my minds eye. They have done an excellent job at marketing. Guess what? They are successful artists. Imagine that!
- Do you have a brand? A logo, a name presence, a memorable and unique color scheme?
- Do you look like your brand? Do you have a personal style that promotes your work? Because remember you are your work.
- Does your work have a voice all it’s own in a nice little niche? If you were flipping through a book of 500 images of similar work, could someone, even your best friend, flip through the book and recognize your piece?
- Do you have name recognition? Have you written articles, submitted pictures to gallery sections in magazines, entered shows, participated in exhibits, etc? Do you teach? Are you an expert?
Take a good look at one of your role models. Make a list of all his or her strengths. How can you make your art business more like theirs? How can you adapt or alter small things to fine tune your brand. Or is it early enough in your business that you can start fresh?
Even after many years of business, it’s not too late to refresh your brand. Look at how many times Apple has refreshed their brand. It might be time for you as well. Marketing is something you should do every week, 52 times a year. It’s a job that is never done.
Make it fun! Think of it as accessorizing your company. Without the perfect jewelry, shoes, purse, belt, hair, makeup, etc, the spectacular dress might be forgettable. Did you forget to accessorize your brand?
Would love to hear from you! Leave me a note or two pretty please 😉
