Holiday Highs

Hope you all had a great Christmas or Chanukkah!  It’s been a great time of reflection and gratitude for me.  However,  I’m astounded that it’s nearly the end of 2008.  What has happened to the time?  Did it zoom by you as well?  My parents always said that time flies when you are old.  It seems the last 10 years have just flown by.  Is it because we’re just too busy?  Why do we work so hard?

I was reading O magazine last night and at the end of the magazine is Oprah’s editorial.  It hit home.  Too much work, not enough time spent on taking care of self.  It’s hard saying no to work and yes to spending time on “luxury items”, like reading, exercising, eating right, and spirituality.  However, those shouldn’t be luxury items.  They should be a priority.  Right?

I found myself answering emails and customer questions even on Christmas day to the dismay of my family.  I can’t remember the last Christmas I didn’t work.  On my recent anniversary trip to Vegas last week (yeah to 15 years!), I spent considerable time on business.  My wonderful (and distracted) hubby was too busy at the slots and didn’t realize I was working.  He thought I was sleeping in!  Guilty, guilty, guilty!

What drives us to miss out on life while we pursue work?  Yet, it seems we still can’t get all the work done.  I’m still looking for ways to create more time, to be more organized, to find a way to get it all done.  Or do I just need to learn to do less?  To learn to say no.  Maybe you can’t have it all.  What’s important in the end?  How do you decide to let some dreams go and pursue others?  How do you not add more when giving things up?

So have you begun to ponder your goals and wishes for 2009?  How are you going to fill your cup so you have bounty to share with others?  Share with me your thoughts, your dreams, your desires.  Have you had success with eliminating and simplifying?  It’s all the rage now.  With the current economic environment everyone is looking for ways to divest and get back to basics.  Is that your goal this year?
