Mondays…..the day that sets the tone for the week. Mondays are always busy here at Whole Lotta Whimsy. It’s the biggest day of the week for us. We get to bed early on Sundays and are early to rise on Mondays. It would be much easier for me to go sit in front of the couch on Monday at 9pm but one of my goals is to regularly post on Mondays. Mondays should set the tone for the week, so Marketing is definitely the topic to tackle! It is the number one key to success, no matter your business…especially an artist.
So Goals Part Deux…..I’m hoping that many of you started dreaming. In order to set goals, one must know what they want. Do you know what you want? Not what your husband wants, your kids, your mom, etc. Knowing what you want is not being selfish or betraying a loved one from something they need. It’s simply human nature to evolve…to grow…to become something more.
I dream my painting
and then paint my dream
….Vincent Van Gogh
Accomplishing goals or desires makes for a happy, well-centered person, which should make those around you happy as well. It’s a win-win situation. If you couldn’t come up with 100 goals then how about 30 things you want to accomplish before you die, 30 things you desire to have, and 30 things you want to do. The key, which I didn’t mention before is to be as specific as possible. These goals should be in all the areas of your life: finances, job or career, health and body, relationships, personal areas (education, religion, etc), free time or recreation, and then community.
Once you’ve written down your goals, now it’s time to get specific. We achieve what we expect. We are often afraid of asking for too much. Here is your permission to ask for the nuts, cherries, and extra whipped cream. Vague goals will produce vague results. It will give your subconscious a chance to start working on it…you’ve then planted the seed.
Every time we think,
every time we feel,
every time we exercise our will,
we are sowing.
….Kenneth Copeland
For example instead of having a good idea like “I would like to get into a good show in 2010.” How about a great goal or objective like “I would like to get into the Smithsonian Show in 2010 as a jewelry exhibitor.” There are two criteria in being specific: how much (a form of measurement like points, dollars, pages) or where (a magazine, a show, a place) and by when (a date and or time).
I know you’ve got those goals done and now you’re going to rewrite them to make them specific, right? Then what? Well we need to make our goals into affirmations. Try rewriting them on 3×5″ cards, make a vision board (earlier post Shazamm- Being More Creative), make a journal or goals book. We are visual. This is why advertising works so well. We are more apt to remember things that have pictures associated with ideas. Your subconscious sees it, processes it and begins working on it. In fact, the major pathway to the subconscious is through the right side of the brain…the visual side. Great for us artists! We are visual and it’s more playtime with scissors, paper, pastels, paints and more!
Next, you’ll need to view these goals three times a day. When you look at them, visualize yourself accomplishing the goal, or enjoying having accomplished the goal. You can do it, you can do it, you can do it….empower yourself.
The greatest discovery of my generation
is that man can alter his life simply
by altering his attitude of mind.
…William James
Post them or show them to someone else. Every time you share your vision, you will strengthen it’s success with your subconscious. Your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between whether it happened, can’t happen or will happen. It simply works toward the goal of accomplishing it.
So here’s your homework:
Dream
Write down your specific goals
Make them visual
Review them 3 times a day
Now make little steps each day to achieve them. We’ll talk about that next time!
Here’s to a fantastic week! 🙂 Will hopefully have a tutorial for you on Thursday. That’s my goal *tee hee*.
